Gluten Free Beer is it possible to brew your own?

To give you a real short answer, yes it is possible to brew your own gluten free beer but it will take a lot of research and testing.

Normally beer is brewed with just four ingredients, water, barley yeast and hops. A person with Celiac Disease suffers from a intolerance to gluten and  this can lead to damage to the intestines. Gluten, are a protein that can be found in various grains like wheat, spelt, oats and barley

Most gluten “free’ beers are not gluten free at all they are just low on gluten from barley and most of the beer lovers who are gluten intolerant will settle for that.

But there are a few recipes now a day that have developed a formula  for a 100% gluten free beer.

The most poplar gluten substitutions grains are sorghum and buckwheat, corn, maize, rice, teff, sunflower, quinoa and soybean. The first two sorghum and buckwheat are the most used in gluten-free beer but the fun in making your own gluten free beer is that you can experiment with other sources.

We would like to think that drinking beer is just like with any other alcoholic beverage, they contain calories but no more than other drinks. But in fact there is no greater variation then calories in beer there are many different beers and they have many different calories, so are all beers bad for your belly?

Well that question is not so easy to answer, a light beer has an average of 100 calories per serving an flavored malt beer can at up to 241 calories per serving. And that is of course a huge amount of calories in beer.

In general we can say that the calories in beer are of the bad kind, they are so called empty calories which are hard to burn and not easy to get rid of. And the “lite” beers are not that lite at all, at least the ones that taste better than a watery kind of beer flavored substance. There are ways around this you can start with home brewing low calorie beer but that is a whole new hobby.

Obviously, the calories in beer can influence the belly of the beer drinker in a negative way, especially when you like to drink the more heavy beers. One or two of those can have the same amount of calories then half a meal, and when you know that many people drink three or four at one night you can add up the calories in beer.

Your body treats calories in beer almost the same as sugar, when you take a beer your body thinks of it like a very easy source of energy and a easier way than burning fat. This is why the calories in beer slow down your body’s fat burning ability.

So, should you stop with drinking beer? No off course you should not stop to drink beer, you only need to drink less of it and enjoy the ones you do drink. Buy a beer you like or brew one yourself and enjoy it to the fullest.

Duff Beer just a fictional brand

In the animated series The Simpson’s Duff Beer is the beer of choice from Homer Simpson. It is the only drink that Moe Syzlack stocks at his tavern, Moe’s Tavern. “Hey Moe, Gimme a Duff Beer, please.” is a well known phrase from Homer Simpson.

Duff beer is a parody of typical commercial beer and has a close similarity to Budweiser it is advertised everywhere in the series just like in real life. In the series the Duff beers official spokesperson is “Duffman” and Budweiser have used a cartoon spokesperson named “Budman”. Also during the Super Bowl in the series, Duff Beer was advertised as Duff Lite and Duff Dry play in the Duff Bowl, which is almost the same to Budweiser’s Bud Bowl.

The producer of The Simpson’s has stated that the Duff trademark will not be used to brew an actual beer, because it could encourage kids to start drinking. There have been however some individuals that have attempted to make money with the name Duff Beer.

There is also a real brewery in England named Daleside which makes Duff beer, here Duff means Gaelic for dark.
